I really wish that a Novell or a Sun picked up Identyx instead, due to their (semi) commitment to both open source and Identity Management. IPA doesn't seem to be a heterogeneous solution at all, and from my preliminary readings, lacks a provisioning solution (although they could leverage Yang's work on Velo). Wouldn't Novell have a lot more to gain by acquiring a virtual directory solution than Red Hat? It just seems like an odd way to show commitment to the idm space.

Penrose was open source before Red Hat acquired Identyx. Jim Yang and his team will now work for Red Hat. There are plans to integrate Penrose into the IPA product line, but not so tightly that Penrose could not be used as a stand-alone product. I think this is great news for Penrose and Red Hat users, and yes, I am sure that Red Hat will now get more actively behind it!

This information is not supported on the Red Hat or Identyx site (or anywhere else for that matter). What is your source?

Interesting. Thanks for commenting Felix. Any thoughts on whether this will mean anything for the quality of Penrose? Will Red Hat get more actively behind it?
