I have recently been testing OpenDS (1.3.0-build004) and it is a dream product. I have been using Sun DS 5.x for years, and OpenDS is a complete joy by comparison (although, I have used DSEE 6.3 and it, too, is really nice). I have no experience with OpenLDAP, but the amount of work and thought that has gone into OpenDS is really staggering. If you have 30 minutes, I highly recommend this talk by Ludo: http://blogs.sun.com/directoryservices/entry/open...

OpenDS will be easier to embed in java based applications, like Portals, IAM servers and complex appliances that need to integrate with a small but complex ldap server, like tarantella (now sun secure global desktop). Don't know any recent benchmark report comparing OpenLDAP vs OpenDS, but here it's one from 2007: <a href="http://tinyurl.com/32bzuc." target="_blank">http://tinyurl.com/32bzuc. Hope to hear news from you, Felix.

So, would you already recommend OpenDS over OpenLDAP?
